They Are Heading Our Way! Time to Get Hummingbird Feeders Out
Our Ruby-throated hummingbirds are heading back from their wintering places in Mexico and Central America. For the next few months, backyards around our area will be playing host to these amazing, food-frenzied birds. They possess the fastest metabolism of any animal on the planet, burning through between one to two times their body weight in food every day.
The male scouts arrive about two weeks before the females. So prepare your nectar feeders and put them out two weeks before you expect to see hummingbirds in our area--that's now here in the Indian Land/Fort Mill area.
